Diabetic Diet Meal Plan
If you are struggling from diabetes, you probably are concerned with what you should be eating. Diabetes can be confusing for a lot of people. When it comes to eating you have to change how you eat, so that way you are doing the most you can to keep your condition under control. If you follow a simple diabetic diet meal plan, you will be able to maintain your blood sugar levels. Through the proper diet and treatment you will be able to do everything that you once were able to do.
When it comes to meals you need to prepare yourself for the changes in how you are going to eat. Your dinner plate should be divided into three sections. Some people have even taken a plate and drawn on it with a permanent marker to make sure that they have a constant reminder of how much they are supposed to be eating. You would draw a line down the middle of the plate to create two equal parts. On one half you would draw another line down the middle, creating two equal smaller sections. Now, you should have three partitions on your dinner plate.
The main part of your diabetic diet meal plan is choosing a vegetable that does not have starch in it, to fill the largest section of your plate. There are a few different vegetables that you can choose from including: tomatoes, cucumbers, cauliflower, carrots or green beans. You can choose to have one or more of these vegetables per sitting. The main thing is to make sure that you completely fill the larger section of your plate with these delicious veggies. If you choose to use a variety of veggies, it will allow you to have some diversity and not get burned out on one vegetable.
Next, in one of the smaller sections you can place your starchy foods. Starchy foods can be anything such as: oatmeal, pasta, rice, whole grain breads, crackers or pretzels. You can include a healthy portion in this area, but don’t go overboard. As a diabetic, you need to limit your intake of starchy foods.
In the last section of your plate, you can include your protein. Proteins generally include any meat or meat substitutes, along with other items such as eggs or tofu. You can add a healthy portion here as well, but do not go overboard with the protein either.
Along with each meal you should include an 8-ounce glass of milk. Water may also be added as an addition to any meal. You can also incorporate a small fruit salad or a piece of fruit to top off your meal and make it complete.
Being diabetic doesn’t mean that you have to give up on your quality of life. The only thing you need to remember is that you have to change your eating habits to a diabetic diet meal plan and you will be fine. You have the power to take control of your life and make it the very best that it can be.
