Best Laptops For College Students 2012

Best Laptops For College Students

You’re going, or you have a friend, son, daughter or other relative going to college and this isn’t like the college you went to 10 or 20 years ago. Now you walk in and everyone’s got a laptop! It’s unbelievable! What are the best laptops for college students in 2012?

First of all, feel free to ask yourself how much you plan on spending and how long you will need the laptop for? If you don’t plan to keep it longer than a year or two, then maybe a cheap laptop would be good. But if you want something with lasting power, here are some suggestions for a laptop that you might really get a lot of use out of.

Acer S3-951-6464

The Acer Aspire S series is a brand new technology. Starting at around $900, it offers a full laptop with a 13.3″ screen, 320 GB hard drive, 4 Gigs of memory, and is one of the thinnest laptops ever, with the laptops being only 0.51 inches thick, and weighs only 3 pounds. Some other new features include an “instant on” button that will boot up the computer in just 2 seconds and a solid state drive that lets you connect to the internet four times faster than an ordinary laptop.

Toshiba Satellite L755-S5271

The Toshiba Satellite is a good versatile machine for a college student. It has a big 15.6″ LED screen, an i3 processor (Sandy Bridge) and 4 Gigs of RAM. The weight is a little bit heavy (5.7 lbs.) but it’s got up to five hours of battery life and should do your college student well if he or she wants to listen to music while doing research. THe price is reasonable too, it should cost you about $600 to purchase this one.

HP Pavilion dv6-6150us

HP’s are a unique blend of power, performance and stability. Also worthy is that they have Beats audio, a system perfected by Dr. Dre in order to make music sound more intense. But music won’t be all that your student will enjoy as this one has a huge hard drive (750 GB), 6 Gigs of RAM and a 2nd generation i5 Intel processor. Also HP has perfected a technology where the laptop will be cooler when placed on a flat surface or on your lap, whereas HP models a couple of years ago had a major problem with feeling hot. All in all, HP has made a lot of changes in the last year and most of them are for the better.

Best Laptops For College Students Conclusion

When it comes to laptops there are a few things to remember. Generally speaking, a 15.6 inch laptop will cost less than a 14 inch one, because the 14 inch ones are demanded by the medical community and fits well on their desks. Also, the 2nd generation processors should get you through at least two or three years without need for an upgraded laptop. The processor speed is one thing you cannot change on a laptop, so make sure you get one fast enough to meet your needs now and in the future.

Those are some of the best laptops for college students for 2012. I will update this list every quarter to make sure its up to date with the fast moving technology world.

I just returned to school and speaking with my sister-in-law who is an IT professional told me all I’ll ever need to my IT training is a decent Dell or similar, mid-priced laptop running Windows. I love Macs but I’m going with her advice.

apple laptops are too expensive for college students that will be paying for it themselves. There are not as many programs compatible with Mac as there are for PCs.
